Ophthalmology
Susan Nelms, DVM, NS, DACVO
Dr. Nelms is a graduate of the Mississippi State College of Veterinary
Medicine. She completed a postdoctoral surgery and medicine internship
at The Animal Medical Center in New York City. Upon completion of
a two-year Residency in Ophthalmology at North Carolina State University,
she became a board certified Diplomate of the American College of
Veterinary Ophthalmologists. Dr. Nelms founded Veterinary Eye Care
in 1993 and also serves as a consulting ophthalmologist for Mississippi
State University and Southern Institute in Birmingham.

Jason Clark, DVM
Dr. Clark received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from
Auburn University's College of Veterinary Medicine. Following graduation,
he practiced large and small animal medicine for six years in Louisville,
Kentucky. He began an internship in ophthalmology at Veterinary
Eye Care in June of 2005.
Jana Korsch, DVM
Dr. Korsch received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from
Mississippi State University. She completed a one-year internship
in small animal medicine and surgery at Auburn University's College
of Veterinary Medicine. She is currently a second year ophthalmology
resident at Veterinary Eye Care. Her special interests in ophthalmology
include ocular manifestations of feline infectious diseases, corneal
disease and surgery.

Emergency Medicine and Critical Care Service
Jason Clark, DVM
Dr. Clark received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from
Auburn University's College of Veterinary Medicine. Following graduation,
he practiced large and small animal medicine for six years in Louisville,
Kentucky. He began an internship in ophthalmology at Veterinary
Eye Care in June of 2005.
Robert J. Douglas, DVM, MS
Dr. Douglas received his Bachelor of Science, Masters of Science and
Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University. He is the
primary author of multiple scientific refereed publications on coccidian
parasitology. Dr. Douglas has been in private practice in Birmingham,
Alabama. His special interests include parasitology, ultrasonography,
endoscopy, and exotic animal medicine and surgery.

Laura Edwards, DVM
Dr. Edwards received her Bachelor of Science degree from Birmingham-Southern
College and her DVM from Tuskegee University. Dr. Edwards is very
experienced in emergency medicine as she has worked exclusively
in this field since her graduation from veterinary school in 2001.
Pete McCann, DVM
Dr. McCann received his Bachelor of Science degree from Georgia Tech
and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Auburn University
in 1988. He has been involved in small animal medicine in various
locations throughout the state. Over the past ten years, Dr. McCann
has been practicing Emergency and regulatory medicine in the Birmingham
area.

Dermatology Service
Robert Schick, DVM, DACVD
Dr. Schick received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from
the University of Florida. He completed his small animal medicine
and surgery internship at the Oradell Animal Hospital, Inc. in Oradell,
New Jersey, and his residency in dermatology at the University of
Pennsylvania. Dr. Schick became a diplomate of the ACVD in 1989.
Dr. Schick brings many years of experience to AVS through his practice
in the Atlanta area and also practices in Michigan and Florida.
Dr. Schick performs many specialized diagnostic procedures, including
microscopic examination of skin biopsy specimen, cytological smears,
intradermal allergy testing, fungal cultures, microbiologic examination
of skin scrapings and secretations, nail surgery, laser surgery,
management of chronic ear disorders, complete endocrine (hormonal)
assays, middle ear evaluation with CT scan and video otoscopy.

Surgery/Internal Medicine
We are agressively recruiting to fill our internist and surgeon
position. We apologize for any inconvenience this interruption in
service may cause. During this interim period, our emergency and
critical care service docotrs are capable of seeing select patients
normally seen by our internal medicine or surgery services. Please
call as our doctors will be available to discuss any referrals.
